Wszystko zaczęło się, kiedy do serialu miały zostać wprowadzone sceny z książkowego Dorne. George R. R. Martin pisał, że Dornijczycy pochodzili w prostej linii od Andalów i Pierwszych ludzi. Mieli oni ciemniejszą, oliwkową karnację i kruczoczarne włosy. Byli nacją rozwiązłą, emocjonalną i dumną. Sam autor powieści, mówił że w stworzeniu ich pomogła mu fascynacja Al-Andalus, czyli południową częścią Półwyspu Iberyjskiego przed Rekonkwistą, kiedy dominował tu islam, a kultura była zdecydowanie bliższa krajom arabskim niż europejskim.

[How did it happen that Andalusia became a movie set for «Game of Thrones«?
It all started when the scenes from the city of Dorne had to be introduced in the movie. George R. R. Martin wrote that the Dornish had come straight from the Andals and First Men. They had a darker, olive complexion and raven-black hair. They were a dissolute, emotional and proud. The author of the novel, said that the fascination of Al-Andalus, the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula before the Reconquista, when Islam dominated here, and the culture was far closer to Arab countries than in Europe, helped him create this nacionality.

Almeria – Bitwa w Meereen i Vaes Dothrak
[Almeria – Battle of Meereen and Vaes Dothrak]
Almeria pojawiła się w serialu dwukrotnie. Po raz pierwszy podczas negocjacji Panów z Meereen ze świtą Daenerys w tle pojawiła się czteroramienna wieża Torre de Mesa Roldan, na której wylądował smok.
Po raz drugi planem filmowym był kamieniołom na pustyni Tabernas, który pełnił rolę Vaes Dothrak, czyli bazy Dothraków do której porwana została Daenerys. W tym miejscu kręcono także wiele filmów czy też teledysków, których sceneria miała imitować Dziki Zachód.
[Almeria appeared on the show twice. For the first time during the negotiations of Great Masters of Meereen with Daenerys‘ retinue, a four-armed Torre de Mesa Roldan tower appeared on the background, on which the dragon landed.
For the second time, the movie set was a quarry in the desert of Tabernas, which appeard as Vaes Dothrak, or the Dothraks base to which Daenerys was kidnapped. Many films or music videos which scenerywas supposed to imitate the Wild West was filmed here. ]

Po ujrzeniu Kordoby, fanom serialu od razu na myśl przyjdzie wolne miasto Volantis z gorącym portem, w którym handlowano niewolnikami. Bardzo charakterystyczny jest także Puente Romano, który zagrał Długi Most wyżej wspomnianego miasta.

Real Alcazar – Pałac w Dorne i Wodne Ogrody
[Real Alcazar – Palace in Dorne and Water Gardens]
Do tej pory nigdy nie wykorzystywano wnętrz Real Alcazar jako planów filmowych, gdyż nie pozwalały na to przepisy UNESCO. Tym razem jednak zrobiono wyjątek. Wnętrza pałacowe grały niesamowite również wnętrza pałacu Księcia Dorana Martella. Tutejsze ogrody natomiast stały się piękną scenerią Wodnych Ogrodów obok Dorne.
[Until now, the Real Alcazar interiors have never been used as movie sets, because UNESCO regulations did not allow this. This time, however, an exception was made. Sewilskie stocznie zaaranżowano na podziemia stolicy, w których Cersei odkryła, że smoki nie są nieśmiertelne i wynaleziono przeciwko nim potworną broń. Obecnie stocznie nie są udostępnione do zwiedzania.

Santiponce – Dragon Pit
Największą atrakcją turystyczną Santiponce są pozostałości rzymskiego miasta Italica. Słynie ono z ogromnego amfiteatru, który mógł pomieścić 20 tys. osób. Niegdyś odbywały się tu walki gladiatórów, a w serialu doszło tu do prawdopodobnie jedynej sceny, w której spotkały się prawie wszystkie najważniejsze postaci serialu w jednym miejscu na naradzie. Dragon Pit było miejscem, gdzie Maegor Targaryen trzymał i tresował smoki.
[The biggest tourist attraction of Santiponce is the remains of the Roman city of Italica. It is famous for its huge amphitheater, which could accommodate 20,000 people. There used to be gladiatorial fighting here, and in the series, the only scene in which almost all the most important characters from this series met in one place at the meeting was played here.. The Dragon Pit was a place where Maegor Targaryen kept and trained dragons.]

Osuna przez długi czas wypadła z listy najbardziej popularnych turystycznie miast Andaluzji, jednak kiedy tutejsza arena do walk byków zagrała arenę walk w Mereen, budowlę odremontowano a w samym mieście znów pojawiło się mnóstwo turystów.
